*Greece* World Alzheimer’s Month Calendar of Activities

Thessaloniki – Alzheimer Hellas:

  • Thursday 16 September at 6.30pm: Online lectures on ‘The good results of the Greek Extra Virgin Olive Oil in Mild Cognitive Impairment (MICOIL)’
  • Friday 17 September (morning): Press conference of Mrs. Magda Tsolaki with the Mayor of the Municipality of Kordelio-Evosmos. Elderly people with cognitive problems will be examined by a psychologist, a social worker and a neurologist during the week.
  • Tuesday 21 September at 5.30pm: Memorial Walk in the Municipality of Kordelio-Evosmos.
  • Thursday 23 September: Speech on the ENALMI programme results.
  • Wednesday 29 September at 6.30pm: Lecture on ‘The role of positive psychology in the resilience of caregivers’ and ‘The Orthodox Church and the survival of Hellenism during Ottoman rule’.

Athens – Alzheimer’s Society of Athens:

  • ‘Lost memories’ Awareness Campaign: You can help people living with dementia by supporting the association’s actions with a phone call to 19832 (with a final charge of only 2.60 euros from a landline and 2.48 euros from a mobile phone).
  • 21 September at 7.30pm: Screening of the Oscar-winning film ‘The Father’ in the garden of the Byzantine Museum. The collective volume ‘When logic’s chasing memory: The multidimensional threat of Alzheimer’s disease in the 20th century’ will be presented by the University Press of Crete. The screening will be followed by a reception.

Athens – Karellio:

  • 21 September: Event hosted by the Integrated Unit for the Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Diseases of the Charitable Organization “APOSTOLI”.
  • 22-24 September from 12pm to 3pm: Free online memory tests for people over 60 at the Centre.
  • 27 September: Online seminar on ‘Psychoeducation for dementia and anxiety’ via Skype.

Athens – EPIONI:

  • 24 September: Conference Day focusing on caregivers, under the auspices of the Municipality of Vari – Voula – Vouliagmeni, the Hellenic Psychiatric Society and supported by the office of the European Parliament in Greece. Free Registration here.

Rhodes – Panakeia:

  • 21 September from 9am to 1pm: The ‘Arsinoe’ day care centre for patients with dementia will conduct free sugar, blood pressure and memory tests for people over 60 on the Plastira street.

Xanthi – Alzheimer Association Xanthi:

  • 21 September: World Alzheimer’s Day event on the central square of Xanthi.

Larissa – Hellenic Society of Alzheimer’s Disease of Larissa:

  • Distribution of information and awareness materials (from EENAL and ADI) from 11am to 2pm -Municipal Conservatory square on 8 September; Analipsi square on 9 September; Filipoupoli square on 10 September; Central square on 11 & 12 September; square Α.Τ.Α. on 13 September;  Agios Georgios square of Epirus on 15 September; Railway station square on 17 September; and 3rd “Mitis” Memory Walk on 21 September.
  • 30 September at 7pm: Music event in the Agios Antonios Park.

Patra – Frontizo:

  • Dementia Awareness Campaign implemented by the Public Benefit Association.
  • 21 September: Lighting of the Rio-Antirio Bridge.
  • 22 September: Online event in collaboration with the Region of Western Greece.
  • Presentation of  the “Web Guide for Caregivers” platform, created by AMKE InterMediaKT in collaboration with “Frontizo” under the “World of Difference” programme.

Serres – SOFSI:

  • 21 September from 10am to 3pm and 6pm to 8pm: Informative outdoor events in Eleftherias Square: distribution of brochures, badges, etc.; anonymous questionnaires; music and dance event; fairy tale corner; gymnastics; written or video recordings and projections related to dementia/Alzheimer’s.
