End of Year Forecast: The diagnostics revolution; are we ready?

Building on the success of ADI’s inaugural End of Year Forecast in December 2024, the 2025 edition returned with timely insights into the global trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping the Alzheimer’s diagnostic landscape.

Hosted in collaboration with Edelman, the free hybrid event featured a conversation between internationally renowned cognitive neurologist and Medical Director at the Banner Sun Health Research Institute, Dr Alireza Atri, and ADI CEO Paola Barbarino, who explored this vital topic.

With the introduction of blood-based biomarkers, questions were raised about what implications these had for the diagnosis pathway. The potential for low-cost, less invasive, and much earlier—including pre-symptomatic—diagnosis was challenging the very definition of the condition. Alongside the science, this also raised ethical, psychological, and emotional questions. Consideration was given to how healthcare systems would respond in terms of education, training, and preparedness, whether it would revolutionise clinical trial participation, what the implications were for specialists, how scanning technologies would need to respond, and how information provision, advice, and support would need to adapt to this new world.
