As we come to the end of 2024, CEO Paola Barbarino shares a message with our members, friends, and colleagues, to summarise our activities in 2024 and to give a preview of what we, at ADI, are looking forward to in 2025. Throughout this year, ADI has continued to raise global awareness of dementia, of the challenges and difficulties that families around the world face every day, but also of the hope that new research and emerging treatments bring to us.

In November 2024, ADI saw dementia action take place across Latin America. Regional Director, Diego Aguilar participated in Brain Week in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, organised by Asociación Alzheimer Bolivia (AAB) and Alzheimer Iberoamérica. Meanwhile, the Government of Tucumán, Argentina, launched the country’s first subnational dementia plan, thanks to years of advocacy by ADI, ALMA, and Fundación León.

This month, ADI’s Head of Accreditation, Amalia Fonk-Utomo, visited Singapore for an impactful trip where she explored key opportunities for improving dementia care, promoted the ADI Accreditation program, and built collaborative partnerships across the region.

In November, ADI highlighted key updates from Belgium, including the first Flanders conference on dementia risk reduction and the recognition of the ennoblement of Sabine Henry for her contributions to dementia advocacy.

As the number of Alzheimer’s treatments seeking regulatory approval rises, ADI continues to provide technical and patient-centred guidance to regulators. In this blog, ADI highlights some of our ongoing engagement in this area, based on our guiding principles in this area:

DY Suharya, ADI’s Regional Director for Asia Pacific, attended the 2024 World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) in Doha, Qatar, where over 3,000 global health leaders gathered to explore innovative solutions under the theme “Humanizing Health: Conflict, Equity, and Resilience.”. In this blog, we highlight DY’s highlights from this bi-annual event, including a plenary sessions delivered by Dame Louise Robinson, Co-Chair of the ADI Medical and Scientific Advisory Panel (MSAP) and Director Institute of Ageing, Newcastle University, UK.

At the Istituto Superiore di Sanità’s 17th Conference on ‘The Contribution of Centres for Cognitive Disorders and Dementia Centres in the Integrated Management of Patients' in Italy. ADI CEO, Paola Barbarino highlighted progress made on dementia globally as well as nationally, calling for greater resources and funding for dementia in Italy.

ADI Member, Dementia Australia highlights the launch of their new blog podcast ‘Hold the Moment’ developed by people living with dementia, aiming to reduce isolation and loneliness felt by carers and people living with dementia.
