Alzheimer’s Disease Association of Lesotho (ADAL)

Membership Development Programme

The Alzheimer’s Disease Association of Lesotho (ADAL) was founded in 2025 by Miss Tlalane Rose Khanyane and Mr. Neall Ellis, with the shared mission of improving the lives of people affected by dementia in Lesotho. ADAL joined the ADI Membership Development Programme in 2025.

ADAL is a non-profit organisation and is committed to building a dementia-inclusive nation where no one faces the disease alone. Their vision is to be a leading force in Lesotho for dementia awareness, advocacy, care, and community support — empowering families and caregivers, promoting early diagnosis, and creating an inclusive society for people living with dementia.

ADAL strategic objectives are:

  1. Increase national awareness and public education on dementia
  2. Foster collaboration with government, health services, and community groups
  3. Support caregivers with resources, counselling, and capacity-building
  4. Promote dementia-friendly communities
  5. Advocate for policy change to prioritize dementia in national health planning
  6. Develop sustainable care services, including Lesotho’s first dementia care centre
  7. Evaluate and improve impact across programs and communities

ADAL services are:

  • Support Groups (in-person and virtual) for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers
  • Helpline Services to provide accurate information, emotional support, and referral assistance (to be launched after the official ADAL launch)
  • Community Awareness Programmes to educate the public and reduce stigma
  • Counselling and psychosocial support for affected families
  • Dementia Training Courses for caregivers, health workers, and volunteers
  • Caregiver Meetings to foster peer support and shared learning
  • Meaningful Engagement Activities to support the well-being of individuals with dementia
  • Educational Materials (in Sesotho and English), including brochures, videos, and guides
  • Information and Advocacy Outreach to promote dementia-inclusive policy and planning
