Paola Barbarino

Paola Barbarino appointed as new CEO

ADI is excited to announce that Paola Barbarino has been appointed as our new CEO. Paola will assume the role on 15 May 2017, after which there will be a period of transition alongside outgoing Executive Director, Marc Wortmann.

Marc will be leaving his position after more than ten years as the executive director of ADI, including leading successful advocacy for global action on dementia by the World Health Organization and United Nations.

Paola said “I am delighted to be joining ADI at this key juncture in the organisation’s history. I look forward to working with the Board and ADI’s membership to achieve our vision of prevention, care and inclusion today, and cure tomorrow.”

Paola is currently the Managing Director of Opaline Limited, a consultancy company specialising in strategy and governance. Until September 2016 she was the CEO of LIFE, a London based membership organisation gathering Lebanese financiers in the diaspora, running an educational charity and supporting an enterprise-promoting NGO. At LIFE, Paola trebled the size and reach of the organisation over the course of her tenure.

Paola joined LIFE from Cass Business School, where she was the Director of Development & External Relations. She is a Trustee of The Postal Museum and Lauderdale House. Previously she was a Trustee of Shelter, the UK housing and homelessness charity and of MLA London. She holds a degree cum laude in Classics from the University of Napoli Federico II, an MA in Field and Analytical Techniques in Archaeology and an MA in Library and Information Science both from University College London. As well as English and Italian, Paola is fluent in French and has a working knowledge of Spanish and German.

Paola is taking the opportunity between now and mid-May to familiarise herself with the work of ADI and will be attending the 32nd International Conference of ADI in Kyoto next month.
