Dementia Action Week will take place from 1 to 7 September 2022 at Mount Meru Regional Referral Hospital, Arusha, Tanzania.
This 7-day event will involve cognitive screening among older people and also promote understanding of dementias and Alzheimer’s disease among health workers.
This will match with the Tanzanian Ministry of Health’s current plan of improving health services to older people in Tanzania. Fight Dementia and Care Organisation – Tanzania is heavily involved in these efforts, therefore as part of the 2022 World Alzheimer’s Month events for Tanzania, the organisation is aiming to promote cognitive screening and understanding of dementias and Alzheimer’s so as to increase dementia care and treatment services offered to older people with dementia. There will also be a full-day workshop for clinicians around the Arusha urban area. They will also distribute brochures and include 3 elderly care homes in the Arusha region.
